Tämänkertainen kuvaus oli monessakin mielessä ensimmäinen laatuaan. En nimittäin ollut aiemmin kuvannut balettitanssijaa tai kyseistä mallia (Emma) studiossa ja studiokin (Lielahden kartanolla) oli ensimmäistä kertaa käytössäni. Eli paljon oli epävarmuustekijöitä ilmassa, mutta lopputuloksessa se ei näkynyt. Kuvista tuli sellaisia kuin olin suunnitellutkin – muutamasta jopa parempia kuin alunperin uskalsin edes odottaa. 🙂

Olen jo pitkään ihaillut Richard Calmesin ottamia fantastisia tanssikuvia ja niiden innoittamana päätinkin päästä kuvaamaan erilaisia taiteilijoita – ja erityisesti tanssijoita – täällä Tampereen seudulla. Omat tanssikuvaukseni halusin aloittaa nimenomaan baletista, sillä sieltähän tämän inspiraationi alkaneeseen kuvaussarjaan olin alunperin saanutkin.

Onneksi todella taitava ja näyttävä (ex-)balettitanssija, Emma, löytyi helposti ja saimme kuvauksetkin sovittua. Ensimmäinen kuvaussessio oli menestys ja lisää on luvassa, kunhan saamme taas aikataulut sovitettua yhteen. Sivun alalaidasta löytyy muutamia kuvia näistä ensimmäisistä yhteisistä kuvauksistamme.

Kuvat otettiin Olympus E-M5III -kameralla, jossa objektiivina M.Zuiko 12-40mm f/2.8. Valaistukseen käytin kahta Godox AD200 -studiosalamaa ja yhtä Godox TT350o:ta. AD200:t valaisivat mallin kummaltakin sivulta stripboxien läpi ja TT350o oli mallin yläpuolella lisäämässä erottelua taustasta ja antamassa haluamaani ”hehkua” myös ylhäältäpäin. Halusin kuviin tietynlaisen visuaalisen ilmeen ja vaikka tämä olikin vasta ensimmäinen kerta, kun tätä ilmettä yritin saada aikaan, oli lopputulos sellainen kuin pitikin.

Ei siis ihme, että olin kaikinpuolin erittäin tyytyväinen saamiimme kuviin ja olen varma, että ensi kerralla saamme aikaan vieläkin parempia. 😉

This photo shoot included lots of ”first times”. First of all, I hadn’t shot in this particular location/studio before. The model was in front of my camera for the first time and it was the first time I was photographing a dancer in studio. It was also the first time I shot with stripboxes and the first time I tried to achieve this certain look (ie. contrasty, moody photos with ”glowing skin” effect).

So… Plenty of things that could have gone wrong but I feel we achieved what we wanted and even exceeded the expectations – at least mine. Emma and I have already agreed to do more photo shoots and I’m sure we can improve from this. I was very lucky to find such an awesome and dashing ballerina to co-operate with me.

I had been admiring the work of this one absolutely fantastic dance photographer – Richard Calmes – for some time now and – to be honest – his photos were the source of inspiration for this project I just started. I aim to shoot different kinds of dancers and artists and try to learn something new in each photo shoot. I already learned quite a lot during this first shoot so I’m off to a brilliant start. Let’s just hope I can get enough models to help me achieve my goals…

I took the photos with my Olympus E-M5III camera and M.Zuiko 12-40mm f/2.8 PRO lens. The model was lit by two Godox AD200s (with stripboxes) and one Godox TT350o (no softbox). The AD200s were placed on both sides of Emma and the small TT350o was straight above her to give more glow from up above as well. I hadn’t tried such lighting before and I was very pleased with the results.

I have the next photo shoot for this new series of mine on Saturday so hopefully I can showcase the results in a couple of weeks from now… Stay tuned for that! 🙂
