Vietämme joka kesä pari viikkoa mökkeilemässä Saarijärvellä ja tuona aikana tulee usein räpsittyä suurin osa koko vuoden makrokuvistani. Niin kävi myös tänä vuonna.

Aiempina vuosina olin ottanut kuvat vanhalla uskollisella Olympus E-M5 -kamerallani, mutta tänä vuonna vanha sotaratsu sai väistyä 3-4 vuotta uudemman mallin tieltä. Vaikkei tämä Olympus E-M10II:kään enää mikään uusi ole, niin tarjosi se kuitenkin askeleen kohti parempia kuvia ja olinkin hyvin tyytyväinen kameraan: automaattitarkennus oli selvästi nopeampi kuin vanhassa ja kuvanlaatukin näkyvästi parempaa. Ainoastaan akkukesto ja sääsuojaus ovat asioita, joissa vanha kamerani on parempi.

Alla joitain ko. kesälomallani ottamiani kuvia. Todennäköisesti kaikki makrokuvat on otettu seuraavanlaisella yhdistelmällä: Olympus E-M10II, jossa Olympus M.Zuiko 60mm f/2.8 -objektiivi ja jonka nokalla 1-2 kpl Raynox DCR -makrolasia. Valaistus taas hoitui Godox TT685o -salamalaitteella. Maisemakuvat taas on otettu uudemmalla Olympus E-M5III -kameralla.

Each summer we spend two weeks in a summer cabin in a small town called Saarijärvi. Those two weeks are meant for relaxing and one activity that helps me with that is doing macro photography. I tend to shoot 90% of my yearly macro photos there.

In the recent years I’ve shot macros with the old Olympus E-M5 camera but this year was different. It was time to replace my old warhorse with a slightly newer model: E-M10II. To be honest though, it’s not that new anymore (introduced in 2015) but it is still a step forward in many ways. The most notable things are faster auto focus and slightly cleaner image quality. But it also has some drawbacks: no weather-sealing and battery life is worse.

I do have a newer version of the original E-M5 as well (ie. E-M5III) but there’s a couple of things preventing me from using that for macro: fully articulating screen is awful for macro and for some reason my 60mm lens doesn’t autofocus properly at close range with it.

If we ignore the new body my macro setup hasn’t changed from last year. I’m still attaching 1-2 Raynox DCR -macro lenses to my Olympus M.Zuiko 60mm f/2.8 lens and Godox TT685o is still the flash I use. It has been proven to be very competent setup so why change it? Well, actually… Olympus is developing a new pro quality 100mm macro lens that would allow me to get even closer to the subjects and improve the image quality too. That sounds tempting. So tempting that I will probably pre-order the lens right away once it’s announced. 🙂
