Lighter = Better!

My wife and I have a tradition to go and see the Christmas show by a local youth circus called Sorin Sirkus each year. This year the show was called Sorin Sirkus Joulushow Kinahmi. I’ve taken my trusted old Olympus E-M5 compact system camera (with the amazing Olympus M.Zuiko 40-150mm f/2.8 PRO lens) with me every time but this year I had my doubts: I managed to break my wrist playing floorball in late November and my hand has been in a cast ever since. Would I be able to handle my camera properly? Would my wrist hurt too much? Those were some of the questions I had on my mind.

I thought I’d regret it if I didn’t at least try to take some pictures so I took the camera with me just in case. I’m glad I did. Even though the ergonomics could have been better (because of the cast) and I couldn’t handle the camera as I normally would, I did manage to take a few hundred pictures. Just imagine what the outcome would have been if I had had a full frame camera with a lens with similar reach (80-300mm) and aperture (f/2.8). That combo would have weighed a ton and my wrist would have screamed for mercy after the first five minutes. I’m pretty sure the people in front of me wouldn’t have appreciated me waving a giant lens over their heads either. That didn’t happen with my equipment though – thanks to the excellent quality/weight ratio of the Micro4/3 system. 😉
